A stray cat kept returning to one family’s house for food, but she wasn’t just looking for a meal. She was looking for a safe place to give birth to her kittens.
The stray, who was eventually named Laloue, would sit by the family’s window until they gave her something to eat. She was a very hungry cat.
This is likely because she was pregnant, but the family wasn’t aware of that at the time. The cat kept returning for her daily feedings, and the family kept feeding her.
Asking for shelter
But as the days started growing colder, the family worried about their new kitty friend being outside. So, they reached out to Nadia, a local trap-neuter-return (TNR) rescuer.
Nadia agreed to take Laloue, who ended up nuzzling up against her as soon as they met. Laloue didn’t hesitate when Nadia scooped her to take her to a warm home indoors.
In fact, that’s exactly what Laloue wanted, so she could give birth indoors and not outside where the temperature was freezing. Nadia soon realized that Laloue was pregnant and going to need more care than she originally anticipated.
So, Laloue was brought to the Chatons Orphelins Montréal, a rescue group in Montréal, Canada, who placed the cat with a foster family.
“The sweet girl settled right into her foster home. She gave us cuddles when we opened the carrier,” the rescue told Love Meow.
She jumped right into mommy duties cleaning, feeding, and purring away next to her babies. Laloue gave birth to four kittens, three male and one female, shortly after her arrival. They were named Plou, Miam, Birdie, and Micro.

Laloue was very thankful to her foster family and even let them hold her babies and help her when she needed it.
Laloue and her kittens couldn’t have been in better hands. They were steadily growing and opened their eyes when they were 10-days-old.
“Laloue was a great mom. With her little ones, she was present and attentive. She immediately trusted the humans of the house during weighing and visits. Her babies are weaned and she has been sterilized,” Chatons Orphelins Montréal wrote on their Facebook page.
Laloue couldn’t have been prouder of her kitties. They grew strong and healthy, or “huge,” as the rescue described it.
Once the family was healthy and grown enough, they were all placed for adoption. The entire family, including Laloue, found perfect forever homes where they would be loved and cared for. Laloue will never have to spend another night out on the streets.
