Remille suffered from illness and hunger as a result of being an outdoor cat. But now, she and her kitten have a better life indoors after being rescued.
Homeowners in Montreal, Canada reached out for help after their cat situation got out of control. People were constantly abandoning cats on their farm.
They tried to save the cats and care for them as best as they could but were unable to provide the care they needed.
Off the streets
Some of the cats became sick, while others were injured because of the fighting between them. Animal rescuer Julie helped to trap and transfer the cats to Chatons Orphelins Montréal cat rescue.
Several cats were pregnant, some of them were covered in mats, and one of the pregnant cats was also matted AND had a cloudy eye. All of the cats were provided with medical attention.
The long-haired cat with the cloudy eye, who was named Remille, was “skin and bones.” She also had a slew of other health problems.
“She had an ulcer on her cornea, and she could barely see out of that eye. She also tested positive for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), but it didn’t stop her from seeking attention and love,” Celine Crom of Chatons Orphelins Montréal told Love Meow.
Remille was able to bulk up to double her weight in just a few days. She slept and ate a whole lot. She also spent time playing with the other animals.
“Her foster mom pampered her with all the attention she wanted, and Remille started to really enjoy life and have fun,” Crom said.
The time came when Remille was ready to give birth and had a litter of four kittens that were very tiny. Unfortunately, only one of the kittens survived despite the best efforts to save them all. He was the biggest kitten of the bunch and was named Hardy.
“The little boy has always been the one who put on the most weight and the strongest. At six weeks old now, he is still nursing and taking his bottle, and that’s okay,” Crom said.
Remille, who is only 10-months-old, was overjoyed that her kitten survived and very happy to have human help with him.
The life she always dreamed of
She is a very good mom and always keeps her baby clean and teaches him how to play. Remille has blossomed as an indoor cat. She loves to play and is very affectionate.
“She likes to snuggle up to us for cuddles. She coos and chirps when she talks,” Crom said. “Hardy the solo kitten is getting very active and curious. He has figured out how to groom himself and is learning to play by imitating his mom. After months of trying to survive the outdoors, Remille is so happy to be a kitten again in a safe home, and to be loved and spoiled.”
